Who is Dental Implants Suitable for?

Dental implant; They are artificial tooth roots used in tooth loss due to trauma or tooth decay. With the technological developments that have developed in recent years, the treatment of most dental problems and diseases has become significantly easier. In addition, dental implant applications have become easier and the number of patients that can be applied has increased as well.

So, is everyone a candidate for implant treatment?

We can apply dental implants to anyone over the age of 18 with sufficient jawbone volume. At the same time, these people should not have any systemic disease.

Who are dental implants suitable for?

We can easily say that it is suitable for implant applications for anyone who has completed bone development (18 years old) and does not have a serious problem in terms of general health. But of course, as can be expected, there will be differences from person to person in implant application stages.

Unfortunately, people's jawbone, jaw structure, body resistance are not exactly the same. For this reason, we first examine the patients and tell our patients how to plan an operation and treatment from the very beginning. It is possible to apply dental implants in these patients by minimizing the risk and following the dental treatment planning correctly.

So who are dental implants not suitable for?

Due to the latest technological developments in the developing health field in the world, dental implant treatment can be applied to almost everyone. However, there are some disadvantaged groups of people who may not be suitable for dental implants.

For example:

  • Those who smoke too much.
  • People with uncontrolled diabetes,
  • People with blood clotting problems
  • People receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy,
  • People with gum disease
  • and finally, people who do not have the jawbone to implant.

People who smoke too much:

Implant surgery in people who smoke a lot are patients with a slightly longer recovery period. Because in tissues that cannot receive enough oxygen, healing slows down and there may even be a risk of losing the implant. We recommend heavy smokers not to smoke for at least 1 month after implant applications.

People with uncontrolled diabetes:

We also apply dental implants to diabetics. However, we are hesitant to have a dental implant for a person whose sugar is not under control, whose sugar values are too high, and who do not pay attention to it. No matter how successful the implant applications are in such patients, the loss of the implant is in question. If the sugar levels in these patients are controlled, we can easily apply the implant. We apply implants to diabetics whose Hba1c test is below 7 and whose sugar level is between 120-180.

People receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy:

Patients who have received chemotherapy and radiotherapy are in the inconvenient group for dental implants. However, we also apply dental implants to these people if approved by their doctors. The most important thing here is to get the doctor's approval.

People with gum disease:

Anyone with good oral, dental and bodily health is a good candidate for dental implants. However, people with gum disease are not suitable for dental implants. Because the health of the tissues is very important for the healing process of the implant. People who receive treatment for gum disease problems become eligible for dental implants.

As a result, we can apply dental implants even to people who are in good general health but have some diseases. The main point here is; The patient's chronic disease should be under control and the doctor's approval should be given.
